SNP BACK PLANS FOR NEW LOSSIEMOUTH COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL

10/07/2018

SNP councillors today backed plans for the new Lossiemouth High School, swimming pool, community facilities and 3G pitch following investment from the Scottish Government and Moray Council.

The planning application showed the site of the new facilities which will bring a state-of-the-art secondary school to Lossiemouth and provide a 3g playing field that can be used by pupils and the local community. It will also provide a replacement swimming pool and a new community centre and library.

Seconding the motion to approve the planning application, Cllr Aaron Mclean said:

“We welcome these plans and look forward to seeing building starting as soon as possible to give pupils the advantages of the new learning environment a new High School will bring. The creation of a 3G sports pitch is a much sought after commodity in Moray and I’m sure will be used widely by both the school and local sports clubs.

“I believe a lot of work has been done to work with the community to progress the application and praise must go to them for working within the constraints of the site. For such a major application not to receive any objections at all shows what good work has been done.

“The facilities are highly anticipated in the Lossiemouth and the wider coastal community and we look forward to seeing them progress now they have passed this milestone.”

SNP Councillor for Heldon and Laich Ward, Amy Patience, whose ward takes in Lossiemouth, said:

“I am really pleased that the planning application for the new High School has been approved.

“Over 20 million pounds of this 35 million pound project has been committed by the Scottish Government enabling the Council to progress it and I know that there will be huge benefits for Lossiemouth and the surrounding communities who will be using these facilities.

“I very much look forward to the construction phase and seeing the new school and swimming pool take shape.”

Moray’s MSP Richard Lochhead said:

“The SNP through the Scottish Government are committed to substantial investment in building and refurbishing schools and it is fantastic to see Moray benefiting from that huge investment.

“The new school, pool and community facilities will benefit many, many people both young and old in and around Lossiemouth and I look forward to seeing the construction start.”
