CLAN DONATION MADE BY MORAY PARLIAMENTARIANS FOLLOWING CHRISTMAS CARD COMPETITION

09/02/2017

Moray’s MP Angus Robertson and MSP Richard Lochhead have presented CLAN Cancer Support with a cheque for 650 pounds at their Elgin support and wellbeing centre in the city’s High Street.

Each year the local MP and MSP hold a design competition for their Christmas Card and they highlight the work of a local charity in the card. Sponsorship from local firms for the competition has allowed donations to be made to highlighted charities.

This year sponsorship by local firms AES Solar, Baxters, Springfield, The Forsyth Foundation and Robertson has enabled the parliamentarians to present a cheque for 650 pounds to CLAN.

CLAN is a cancer charity that provides emotional and practical support to people affected by cancer across north-east Scotland, Moray, Orkney and Shetland.  The organisation offers a relaxed, welcoming and caring environment both at CLAN House, their purpose-built support and wellbeing centre in Aberdeen, and at their bases in the community such as the High Street facility in Elgin.

Over the last 30 years CLAN has developed specialist knowledge and understanding of how a diagnosis of cancer impacts not just the person diagnosed but also their wider circle of family and close friends. They provide a range of person centred services, delivered using qualified and experienced counsellors and therapists, that offers a holistic approach for the general wellbeing of clients.

Services available include information and support, counselling, complementary therapies, social and wellbeing activities and dedicated support for children and families. For those travelling to Aberdeen hospitals for appointments or treatment, we also offer affordable B&B accommodation at CLAN Haven alongside assistance with transport to and from hospital.

CLAN aims to help people live with and beyond cancer and improve the quality of life for all those that they help and support.

Angus Robertson MP said:

“I am absolutely delighted with the generosity of our local sponsors this year - AES Solar, Baxters, Springfield, The Forsyth Foundation and Robertson. Their support has not only supported the Christmas Card design competition - this year won by 9 year old Gloria Johnston from St Thomas Primary in Keith - it has also enabled us to give a substantial donation to CLAN Cancer Support.

“The theme of this year’s design competition was ‘Welcoming’ and that is very appropriate for the services that CLAN provide to their many clients here in Moray and across the north east. The organisation welcomes in those living with cancer, their family and friends and provides them with a wide range of support to help them through tough times.”

Richard Lochhead MSP said:

“The work of organisations like CLAN is so important to people who are living with cancer and for their wider family and friends, who can be overwhelmed with the impact of cancer on their lives.

“CLAN provides a fantastic range of services, which are based on many years of experience providing support. The efforts of their employees and volunteers should not be underestimated and I am delighted we are able to support them through our Christmas Card competition.

“The support from our very generous sponsors makes donations like this possible each year and I thank AES Solar, Baxters, Springfield, The Forsyth Foundation and Robertson for their efforts.”
